Woman Faces New Charges After Assault on Doctor

According to police reports, a Golden Valley woman who was under investigation for a suspected DUI has kicked a doctor in the chest and now faces aggravated assault charges.

Officers reported that Diana E. Chandler, 57, was pulled over and transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center because she was “not responding very well.” Officers were concerned for her safety and health, so they decided to transport her to the hospital for an exam. Chandler allegedly became violent toward medical staff, reportedly kicking a doctor in the chest. She was restrained and taken into custody. Before the incident, she faced possible misdemeanor DUI charges. Now, she faces a pending felony charge of aggravated assault on a health care provider.

Aggravated Felony DUI

While DUI laws vary state to state, Arizona has a more serious charge known as “aggravated DUI.” This specific type of DUI usually results from the offender injuring someone while intoxicated. An aggravated drunk driving charge is considered a felony charge, so a conviction results in much harsher penalties than those associated with a misdemeanor. Typical factors that lead to an aggravated DUI charge include:

  • Extremely high blood alcohol level (BAC)
  • Driving drunk with a minor in the vehicle
  • Causing serious injury or death while drunk

Those who are convicted of an aggravated DUI will have a felony record. This can bar an individual from many jobs in the future. Along with a felony record, those convicted of aggravated DUI may also face:

  • Incarceration
  • High fines
  • Loss of license
  • Probation
  • Mandatory installation of ignition interlock device
