What Are The Penalties for Shoplifting in Phoenix – Shoplifting Lawyer

A person commits shoplifting in Arizona if, while in an establishment in which merchandise is displayed for sale, the person knowingly obtains such goods of another with the intent to deprive that person of such goods by:

  • Removing any of the goods from the immediate display or from any other place within the establishment without paying the purchase price
  • Charging the purchase price of the goods to a fictitious person or any person without that person’s authority
  • Paying less than the purchase price of the goods by some trick or artifice such as altering, removing, substituting or otherwise disfiguring any label, price tag or marking
  • Transferring the goods from one container to another
  • Concealment

Possible Sentences You Could Face

The classification of filing is based on the value of the stolen property.

  • If the value of the stolen item(s) is more than $2,500 = up to two-year prison term with eligibility for probation if it is the first offense
  • If the value of the stolen item(s) is more than $1,000, but less than $2,000 = up to a 1.5-year prison term with eligibility for probation if it is the first offense
